Sailing the caldera
3 hours / 59 €
This tour will introduce you to one of the most amazing geological phenomenon of the world. The Caldera of Santorini created after one of the largest volcanic eruptions the planet has ever seen, which occurred 3,500 years ago. After boarding the traditional sailing boat, relax and enjoy the sailing which will take you around the volcanic islands of Nea Kameni (Young Burnt island), a small uninhabited island, formed in the 16th century through volcanic eruptions and its youngest lava is less than 50 years old, Palia Kameni (Old Burnt island) less than 2000 years old, and Thirassia which is the only of the three islands with inhabitants. There will be an optional stop at Palea Kameni for guests who wish to swim in the hot springs. After passing Thirassia the local boat sails close to beautiful Ammoudi fishing port and underneath picturesque Oia village. Here you will have the opportunity to take photos of this magnificent view before your return to the old port.
Guests who wish to swim should wear their swimsuit under their clothes and bring a towel from the ship. It is not recommended to swim in the hot spring’s sulphurous waters if you have sensitive skin.

The local caique will take you from ship's side for a 15-minute boat trip up to Nea Kameni. The sail will take you along the volcanic shores with the peculiar shape formations. The black volcanic rocks and the white pumice are offering nice views for you to admire. After disembarking the caique a 30-minute hike will take you to the crater of the still active volcano. During your walk up on an ascending path you will have the opportunity to observe the lava fragments and the volcanic rock formations.
Once you have reached the crater you will have time to relax and enjoy the view of Santorini Island and the amazing cliff of the Caldera. Then you start your descent back to the caique. Leaving the volcanic island, you will sail towards the thermal springs of Palea Kameni. The boat will pass by the green sulfur waters with temperatures that reach 37°C. Guests who wish to swim in these warm waters may do so, but guests must be able to get in and out of the water using the boat’s vertical ladder. From there you will continue your boat trip towards back to the ship.
There is no shade on the volcano and you should wear appropriate sun protection. Good walking shoes are required and you should consider the nature of this tour when booking. There
is one hour of extensive uphill walking involved. Guests who wish to swim should wear their swimsuit under their clothes and bring a towel from the ship. It is not recommended to swim in the
hot spring’s sulphurous waters if you have sensitive skin.
Akrotiri / Oia
4 hours / 65€
From your ship, board a local tender for the 15 minute transfer to the port of Athinios. Here you will board your coach for the 15-minute drive to Akrotiri.
The prehistoric site of Akrotiri, known as the "Pompeii" of the Greek island of Santorini, reopened recently after seven years of closure due to an accident. Akrotiri is home to the ruins of a city whose first traces date back to the Neolithic period, in the 4th millennium BC, and was buried under ash during a volcanic eruption dated 17th century BC, the age of the bronze sea Aegean. Excavations have to uncover urban vestiges in excellent condition.
Following your visit, reboard your coach to Oia. On route you pass through several small villages perched above the sea and will have a chance to admire the different lava flows which for centuries have fashioned the island’s landscape. You will eventually arrive in Oia, a little jewel of a place on the side of a cliff overlooking the old crater or Caldera on the coast forming the north-west point of the island. The traditional Cyclades architecture has been scrupulously respected here and offers some stunning perspectives.
Back in Fira town, you will walk a few hundred meters to the cable car station to the old port where you board your tender back to the ship.
